A fence is a row of sections between posts. Count the sections and everything else follows.
Fence calculator
Enter the fence length and gates. Leave picket width at 0 for a panel or rail fence.
Enter your numbers to see the result.
How it works
- Sections = fence length without gates / post spacing, rounded up.
- Posts = sections + 1, plus one per gate for the second gate post.
- Rails = sections x rails per section.
- Pickets = fenced length in inches / (picket width + gap).
Before you dig
- Find your property line. A survey or the plat for your lot shows it.
- Call 811 a few days before digging so buried utilities get marked.
- Check height limits and permit rules for your town and any HOA.
Set the posts with the post hole concrete calculator.
