Pavers go fast once the base is right. Most of the work is digging and compacting.

Depths follow ICPI’s minimums for patios: 4 in of compacted base and a 1 in bedding layer.

Steps

  1. Call 811. Mark the patio and dig to base + sand + paver depth, sloping away from the house.
  2. Compact the soil, then place and compact the base in layers.
  3. Screed 1 in of bedding sand. Do not walk on it.
  4. Lay pavers from a corner, install edge restraint, sweep in joint sand and compact.
